Summary

Just 1 word : Dull。This book is so boring。 I couldn't even finish listening to it。 The writing was boring。 The lady who narrated the book had a boring, unpleasant voice。 I got to 1/3 and just cant listen to it anymore。 I give up。Later added :Why would I care when which child of hers did what, and said what, or cried, or walked, or fell or peed?!?! Does anyone care about sh*t like that (apart from close relatives maybe)? I really can't imagine。And the parts from what I did listen to, beside being Just 1 word : Dull。This book is so boring。 I couldn't even finish listening to it。 The writing was boring。 The lady who narrated the book had a boring, unpleasant voice。 I got to 1/3 and just cant listen to it anymore。 I give up。Later added :Why would I care when which child of hers did what, and said what, or cried, or walked, or fell or peed?!?! Great book。 I loved the film „A theory of everything“ too。 But the film is mostly about Stephen。 Jane‘s story is one most women can relate to。 A good read!

Interesting to read about the Hawkings and everything Jane endured to keep the family going。 An inside look as to what the family went through out of the public eye and the lack of resources as well as the battles they faced within the universities and the NHS at times heartbreaking。 However, it was so dull that it took me over 4 years to finish。 Janes writing and her use of highbrow words to describe music and language left me rolling my eyes。 If you’re going to write a memoir (assuming you’d l Interesting to read about the Hawkings and everything Jane endured to keep the family going。 An inside look as to what the family went through out of the public eye and the lack of resources as well as the battles they faced within the universities and the NHS at times heartbreaking。 However, it was so dull that it took me over 4 years to finish。 Janes writing and her use of highbrow words to describe music and language left me rolling my eyes。 If you’re going to write a memoir (assuming you’d like to actually sell some books) please make it more accessible to someone who could really care less about the similarities you found between the kharjas and the cantigas de amigo。 (Page 200) 。。。more

- beautiful testament to self-sacrifice by a very intelligent woman- doesn’t seem at all self-pitying, but reader can appreciate all the sacrifices made to preserve Stephen Hawking and his family - full of appreciation of all her helpers- read this in a single stretch because I found it inspiring and well-written

A very interesting and entertaining look at the private life of Stephen Hawking。 A fascinating venture into one of the most incredible minds。 It was truly very enlightening to read about how much Hawking neglected his personal life in place for his genius。 I felt so sorry for Jane during some aspects of their relationship。Of course I did also allow for the fact that the book is written by Jane and therefore is one side and one view of the situation but it was still interesting to learn about。 Ha A very interesting and entertaining look at the private life of Stephen Hawking。 A fascinating venture into one of the most incredible minds。 It was truly very enlightening to read about how much Hawking neglected his personal life in place for his genius。 I felt so sorry for Jane during some aspects of their relationship。Of course I did also allow for the fact that the book is written by Jane and therefore is one side and one view of the situation but it was still interesting to learn about。 Hawking was obviously a remarkable man and his family life was no different in that sense。 A remarkable story of love and acceptance and the trials and tribulations that come with marriage。 Worth reading if you want a bit more understanding of Hawkings character but you'd be wise to remember this is one side of the story。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Estou gostando muito desse livro!

Language? Our expectations? It’s like rating someone’s personal diary, yikes) As always, the movie could never really depict the multi-dimensional reality that they actually face。 All we’re fed with is mostly on Stephen fighting against the odds, thriving with success, Jane being supportive & determined to get things done。 But what about the meltdowns, isolations & pressure it had on Jane & other family members? You’ll get a taste of that too but at the size of a cherry on top of a cake。 The cake is essentially travelling, awards, struggling with Stephen’s technology, throwing parties, meeting other scientist, tryna make new friends, the kids, Jonathan, gossipy nurses, more travelling & more awards。 I find myself reading in details about Russia that I couldn’t care less about, but who am I to say what a memoir should be all about。 All I can say about this book is, it’s like a rollercoaster ride but without the adrenaline? 😂 Enjoy! 。。。more

Very moving memoirs of a wife struggling to build a family and her own life with a husband is in an advanced stage on an incurable disease。I think this book is very important since it gives a voice to someone who has been silenced by medias, her husband, and the world。 Yes, Stephen Hawking has been an amazing scientist, but Jane Hawking has been a constant presence, putting her own life and projects aside to make sure he would fulfill his。

I broke my cardinal rule and watched the film long before reading the book, and there was a big let-down in finishing this memoir。 The film really went out of its way to romanticize Stephen and Jane's relationship a lot more than was actually true。 Good for the big screen, I guess。 The truth is, there was a lot more doubt and resentment and guilt than I was aware of。 The book filled in a lot of the holes that were left by the film, especially when it came to Jane and Jonathan's relationship and I broke my cardinal rule and watched the film long before reading the book, and there was a big let-down in finishing this memoir。 The film really went out of its way to romanticize Stephen and Jane's relationship a lot more than was actually true。 Good for the big screen, I guess。 The truth is, there was a lot more doubt and resentment and guilt than I was aware of。 The book filled in a lot of the holes that were left by the film, especially when it came to Jane and Jonathan's relationship and how everyone truly felt about another man being around all the time。 I did appreciate hearing Jane's story and what it was like to care for someone who quickly became incapacitated。 As someone who lost a loved one to Motor Neuron/ALS, these stories need to be shared。 。。。more

Extraordinary life of Jane and Stephen Hawking。 Love, dedication, trust, caring。 The story touches all kinds of facets, physics of course, Jane's Spanish literature, the imminent nuclear war in 1960's to 70's, etc。 The biggest thing I took away from her story was that man needs to listen to his wife, just listen, no judgement or leading to conclusion or advice。 I knew the importance of this for too long。 I read several book about different brain and expectation between two genders。 Understood lo Extraordinary life of Jane and Stephen Hawking。 Love, dedication, trust, caring。 The story touches all kinds of facets, physics of course, Jane's Spanish literature, the imminent nuclear war in 1960's to 70's, etc。 The biggest thing I took away from her story was that man needs to listen to his wife, just listen, no judgement or leading to conclusion or advice。 I knew the importance of this for too long。 I read several book about different brain and expectation between two genders。 Understood logically, though Jane's story is most impactful to me in this point。 。。。more
